Recalld
Terms of Use
About these terms
By creating an account or using Recalld, you agree to these terms, so please read them, especially "Accuracy of information and alerts" and "Our liability to you".
Effective date: 01 November 2026
Who we are: Recalld is provided by James Aston ("we", "us"), of Recalld, First Floor, Swan Buildings, 20 Swan Street, Manchester, M4 5JW
Contact: hello@recalld.co.uk.
Other documents: our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal information and forms part of these terms. Apple's and Google's app store terms also apply to your download of the app.
Who can use Recalld: you must be at least 13 years old and live in the UK. If you are under 18, please use Recalld with a parent or guardian's permission. Recalld covers recalls published by the Food Standards Agency for England, Wales and Northern Ireland; recalls issued only in Scotland by Food Standards Scotland may not appear.
What Recalld is and isn't
Recalld is an information service that helps you keep track of food recalls and allergy alerts published by the Food Standards Agency (FSA); it is not medical, dietary or food safety advice.
- Where the information comes from: recall and allergy alert details come from the FSA's public data. We display them as published and link to the official notice. We do not create, check or change the FSA's content.
- Not affiliated: Recalld is independent. It is not run, endorsed or checked by the FSA, any government body or any supermarket or brand named in an alert.
- Not advice: nothing in Recalld tells you a food is safe to eat. If you or someone you care for has an allergy, follow the advice of your doctor or allergy specialist. If you have a severe reaction, call 999.
- Open Government Licence: Recalld contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Under that licence, the FSA gives no warranty about the information and accepts no liability for its use.
Accuracy of information and alerts
We work hard to show recall information accurately and on time, but we cannot promise that Recalld is complete, error-free or up to date, and you should not rely on it as your only source.
- FSA data: recall details may contain errors, be updated or withdrawn, or be published late by the FSA. We are not responsible for the content of FSA notices.
- Delays and gaps: information can be delayed or missing because of FSA systems, internet connection problems, app or server outages, your device settings or app store and phone restrictions on notifications.
- Allergen matching: highlighting recalls that match your allergens is automated. It depends on how the FSA labels each alert and on the allergens you select, so it may miss a relevant recall or highlight one that doesn't apply to you. A recall without a highlight is not confirmation that a product is safe for you.
- Supermarket and product details: recalls may not name every shop selling a product, and product names, pack sizes, dates and batch codes are shown as the FSA published them.
- What you should always do: read product labels before eating, check the official FSA notice (linked from every recall), and follow the instructions in it and on the retailer's notice. If in doubt, don't eat it.
Your account and acceptable use
You are responsible for your account and for keeping your allergy profile up to date, because Recalld can only highlight the allergens you select.
- Give accurate details and keep your password secure. Tell us at hello@recalld.co.uk if you think someone else has accessed your account.
- Only enter someone else's allergies with their agreement, or as their parent or guardian.
- Don't misuse Recalld: don't try to hack, overload, copy or scrape the app or its data, interfere with ads, or use it for anything unlawful.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. We will tell you why unless the law or security reasons prevent it.
Free service, ads and availability
Recalld is free to use and is funded by advertising, and we may change or pause features to keep it running.
- Ads: ads are provided by Google AdMob. We don't endorse advertised products, and your dealings with advertisers are between you and them. Your choices about personalised ads are explained in our Privacy Policy.
- Availability: we aim to keep Recalld running, but it may sometimes be unavailable for maintenance, updates or reasons outside our control.
- Changes: we may update, add or remove features, or stop offering Recalld. If we close the app, we will give you reasonable notice where we can, and you can delete your account at any time.
- Paid features: if we ever offer paid features, we will tell you the price and terms before you pay.
Our liability to you
We limit our liability as far as UK law allows, but nothing in these terms takes away rights the law says we cannot remove.
- What we never exclude: our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or anything else that cannot be limited under the laws of England and Wales, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
- Information we don't control: we are not responsible for errors, omissions or delays in information published by the FSA or other third parties, or for products named in a recall.
- Losses we are not responsible for: losses that were not foreseeable when you started using Recalld; losses caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as internet, app store or third-party service failures; and losses caused by you not following the official FSA notice or product label.
- Personal use only: Recalld is for personal, non-commercial use. We are not liable to you for any loss of profit, business or business opportunity.
- Overall limit: because Recalld is free, where the law allows us to limit our liability, our total liability to you for all claims connected with Recalld is limited to £100.
- Your statutory rights are not affected. Citizens Advice can explain them.
Our content
The Recalld name, logo, design and app are owned by James Aston. You may use the app for personal use, but not copy, sell or reuse it. FSA information remains subject to the Open Government Licence.
Ending your use
You can stop using Recalld at any time and delete your account in Settings, which deletes your data as described in our Privacy Policy.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. We will update the effective date and, for significant changes, tell you in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Recalld after that, the new terms apply.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in your local courts. Please contact us first so we can try to resolve any problem.
